Beaufort County Council met to consider County projects, infrastructure, community development, public facilities, transportation, funding, and other matters affecting our community.

County Council Caucus 

During Caucus, County Council entered into Executive Session to receive legal advice and to discuss personnel matters. There was one matter arising from County Council Caucus Executive Session, wherein Council accepted the proposed settlement offer from Nova Industrial Properties, LLC.

County Council Meeting 

MCAS Beaufort & Intergovernmental Support Agreement

Council directed Administration and staff to proceed with the transfer and acceptance of the Intergovernmental Support Agreement (IGSA), transitioning the agreement from MCAS Beaufort and the Beaufort County School District to an agreement between MCAS Beaufort and Beaufort County.

Stormwater & Royal Pines

Council approved first reading of an ordinance providing $3.475 million for the purchase of property needed for the Royal Pines Stormwater Project. Council also approved a FY2027 budget amendment addressing Stormwater Utility operations and other County needs.

Sidewalks & Transportation Improvements

Council approved actions related to right-of-way and temporary construction easements for Safe Routes to Schools sidewalks and multi-use pathways, as well as improvements associated with the Lady’s Island Corridor.

Beaufort Executive Airport

Council approved acceptance of two Federal Aviation Administration grants totaling more than $3.1 million to reimburse the County for property purchases associated with airport improvements. Council also approved a contract for construction of additional hangar facilities at Beaufort Executive Airport.

County Facilities & Historic Sites

Council approved contracts for several County projects, including replacement of the mechanical system at the County Administration Building, demolition and removal of the Wimbee Creek Fishing Pier, and improvements to the Fort Fremont stairs and rails.

Community Development & Zoning

Council approved amendments to the Community Development Code on second reading following a public hearing. The amendments allow the use of shipping containers for agricultural purposes, subject to the updated County regulations. Council also approved a zoning map amendment affecting approximately 1.4 acres.

Tax-Funded Grant Programs

Council approved FY26 Local 3% Accommodations Tax and Local 2% Hospitality Tax grant awards.

Planning for Emergencies

Council adopted the 2026 Lowcountry Hazard Mitigation Plan, which provides a framework for preparing for and reducing the impacts of future hazards.

The County Administrator also provided updates on the Sales Tax Referendum, 278 Bridge Project, Alljoy Pathway Project, and Fire Station 39, along with employee recognitions and the introduction of the new Detention Center Director.
